She lived her life with hope and dreams,
And filled our days with love.
She listened to our tears and screams,
And gave us a gentle shove.

She always knew what to say
In times when emotions ran high.
She’d never judge or turn away,
    Or even pick a side.

Instead, she’d take us by the hands,
And give us the strength we need.
    She’d always listen and understand,
And keep us up to speed.

    She’d always remember birthdays,
Or the dates that we’d sometimes ignore.
She’d never forget to stop and say,
    How much we are adored.

The strongest part of a flower,
Are the roots that no one sees.
They provide the balance and power,
That brings us to our knees.

She’ll forever live in our soil,
    Nourished solely by her hope.
She’ll always teach us not to foil,
The ties of our family rope.

    Bounded strong and woven tight,
    The Riders do stand strong.
We will love instead of fight,
    And sing her favorite song.

She sang of love and of peace,
    And everything sweet and smart.
In our veins will flow her love,
That comes from a swedish heart.

Innisfil author getting taste of success
    BOOKS: Susan Jackson (a. k. a. Jacie Rider) holding book signing in Barrie Sunday from 2 p. m. to 3 p. m.

    Posted By SUSAN DOOLAN

There's nothing like a little chaos, maybe even a murder or two, surrounded by a mysterious tale with a touch of romance to make for a best-selling combination.

At least it could explain why local author Susan Jackson's (who writes under the pseudonym Jacie Rider) first book, Onions, has sold out in three Barnes and Noble storefronts in North Carolina.

"No idea," she said, of the book's popularity in that particular area of the United States.

She has also had lots of requests for the book in her former hometown of Youngstown, Ohio, so much so that the publisher asked her to go down there for an in-person book signing May 8. It sold out, too.

Now there will be a Barrie book signing at David's Books, 555 Mapleview Dr., on Sunday, from 2 p. m. to 3 p. m.

Jackson's pseudonym was born from a slip of the pen when she inadvertently dropped the 'k' in Jackie (shortened from her last name). She liked the result -- pronounced JC -- and it had a nice ring when paired with Rider, Jackson's maiden name.

Onions tells the story of Claire James who hopes to start a new life when she and her daughter move to Vermont. It's not off to a good start, but a car crash brings her together with Nick, the town doctor.

Together, they try to solve the mystery behind a string of awful events, which include attempts on Claire's life, and townsfolk who fall into unexplained comas.

"I always start with the title," said Jackson, explaining the origins of Onions. "I was behind this onion truck going through Bradford and all these shavings -- thin onion shavings were floating everywhere. I turned on the wipers to push them out of the way, and as they were going back and forth I saw the opening scene in my head.

"(It happens) all the time -- very strong. I see the title, and I see the scene and I have no idea what the book is about," she added. "It's as much a surprise to me as everyone else."

Jackson has always wanted to be a writer and still remembers the first poem she ever wrote. Called Sunset, it was inspirational and was published in the church bulletin where it had a 25-year run.

Short stories followed, then she stopped writing for 15 years. Life events intervened, among them Jackson lost two members of her family to suicide.

She met her husband, Randy, when she was 16 years old, spending summers with her family at an Ontario park.

They were married by age 20, and spent the first 15 years in Ajax. They have one child.

"We wanted a better life, and wanted to play with toys legally," she said with a laugh. "It was the snowmobiling (they're avid ATVer's, too) and that's why we picked Innisfil."

It was a year of chaos, where everything that could go wrong did -- including cancer -- that marked the beginning of writing again.

During her recovery from a car crash, Jackson was helping her daughter write a book report. It not only made her feel better but also "stirred her creative juices."

She wrote 13 books in the year following, eight before she told anyone.

In the lineup Onions was the fifth. To date, Jackson has written 24. All are in the same genre.

"I love stuff that makes you think and spooks you out," she said.

When Jackson isn't writing, she enjoys photography. For more information and reader reviews, visit her website at www.jacierider.com.

Once I started to read it, I couldn't put it down and kept wondering what was going to happen next. The romance was good, but I'm not much of a romance girl, but there is something for everyone in this book. I'm going to request my library get a copy too.
A girl at work gave me a Nora Roberts book to read and I was bored by the first few pages and couldn't continue on. I was shocked to find that this woman has sold tons of books.?? You can do WAAYYYY better!
I'm proud of your for making your dreams come true and I know good things are going to blossom out of your talent.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to the show.

  9. Couldn't put it down!
This book is extremely well written! With each chapter there was a new twist or turn that simply contradicted the way I anticipated what would happen next. The characters seemed to come to life. The intensity continued to build up as I flipped through each page. I would highly recommend this book to family and friends and look forward to reading many more books written by Jacie Rider. I will never look at onions in the same way!

    Jacie Rider DID IT!!!
A toatlly compelling read. One of the best page turners I have read in years. The suspense leaves you in a comfortless, strange hold. Jacie Rider is quickly becoming my author of choice

    Wow! That was a twist!
I am a working mom with two small children and this book kept me up way past midnite! I just couldn't put it down, I craved the suspense and wanted to solve the mystery with each turning page. I just couldn;t figure it out until the end. They should make a movie out of this! Truly an amazing read and I hope to see many others on the shelves by Jacie Rider. After finishing this book, I felt an emptiness, like there was something missing in my life. I look so very forward to reading other books by this amazing author.

    A Super Read!!!
I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to read this book before it's publication. I am an avid reader and I just couldn't put it down. The story was engaging and the characters well developed. I would recommend this to everyone and look so forward to future stories by Jacie Rider.

    Truly engaging plot and characters!
This was a book you hated to put down. The characters were well developed and interesting. Claire James is a strong character that many women can identify with. The plot was convincingly twisted and had me hooked from the beginning. Is there a sequel?
    __________________________________________

    A good read for sure!
I was impressed with the plot development and the way the characters were so real. The author keeps the story moving at all times. I usually don't read books very fast, but I couldn't put this one down. Definitely a good read!

    I have read Onions

I read Onions in its infancy and it took me 3 nights. I needed to know what happened as things progressed. It captivated my imagination each night, wanting to know what was going to happen. Sometimes I was correct but then events took a real twist and there I was again trying to piece things together. Then it happened. THE END. I finally knew and everything made sense. That should be the real essence of good writing, and it was in this book. Thouroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for the next one.

    I loved Onions!

I read Onions in one night. It hooked me from the beginning, and I couldn't put it down. I didn't know what to expect from this writer, and I was blown away by the story and the characters and the suspense factor that kept me on the edge of my seat. I'm not a big reader, but this book didn't make feel like I was reading it, but living it. Every time I thought I figured it out, the story would make a left turn and I was stuck where I was-turning pages until my alarm clock went off. I can't wait for the next one!

I thought this was an excellent read, I couldnt put it down. Everytime you think you have it figured out,,,,another twist to keep you guessing and reading. The characters were so real that they grabbed a hold of you and wouldnt let go. I've read many suspense books, especially "The Queen of Suspense" Mary Higgins Clark, and this was right up there with her and in some cases, it surpassed her. I totally loved it, will pass it on to others and look forward to more by Jacie Rider!!! Thank you for three days of fun, suspense and excitement!!!

Murder mystery gives a small town a dramatic thrill

Posted January 25, 2010, 2:42 PM EST: This page turner is engrossing in its plot and with the main character embroiled in a mystery that she is desperate to solve in order to save herself, daughter, and a new love. The new town she moves into doesn't exactly roll out the welcome carpet when she moves in with her daughter. The book contains shadowy figures, disappearance of a teenager, accidents, new love and passion. It's a quick read that will leave you hoping for a sequel.
